Pennsylvania public universities faculty union strike, 2016
Members of the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF) participated in three-day strike across all 14 state colleges and universities in Pennsylvania. Representing more than 5,000 faculty members and coaches, the union went on strike because members were working under an expired contract and had disagreements with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PaSSHE) over working conditions, following many years of state funding cuts for public higher education and a decade of acrimonious negotiations. Union members and hundreds of students participated in picket lines to demand a fair contract. The strike ended on its third day when APSCUF and PaSSHE reached a tentative agreement on a new contract, which according to the union eliminated hundreds of problematic proposed changes but required concessions on salary and benefits.
